2024/25

String Quartet Commission Project.

About

We are so excited to introduce our first-ever commissioning project. In collaboration with Dr. Eric Alexander and the Boise State University Department of Composition, Thirdspace Quartet will commission, workshop, perform, and record a brand new string quartet from an emerging composer.

One composer will be selected through a call-for-scores. A simple application will be available to all BSU students beginning October 1, 2024. Applications close October 25, 2024.

Oh, and there’s a cash prize for the commission.

People & Place

A newly commissioned string quartet will explore 'People & Place' in Boise, Idaho.

The project will include:

  1. A short application and a call-for-scores to select an emerging composer at BSU;

  2. A commission of an original piece for string quartet inspired by the topics “People & Place” as they might pertain to Boise, Idaho from the selected composer;

  3. Two in-person workshops with the selected composer;

  4. Two public performances of the commissioned work as part of a complete State of the Art concert program;

  5. An audio and video recording of the commissioned work.

$500 stipend

will be offered to the selected composer. (That’s in addition to the workshops, performances, and recordings. Cool!)
